Jamie Lee Curtis has high praise for her co-star Pamela Anderson in The Last Showgirl.

“I see her as a remarkable individual,” Curtis, 65, shared exclusively with PEOPLE at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6. “She is incredibly intelligent, deeply spiritual, and has a beautiful soul!”

Anderson, 57, plays Shelley, a Las Vegas showgirl who is rebuilding her life after her long-running performance ends. Curtis portrays Shelley’s best friend, Annette, and mentioned that her decision to join the film was largely influenced by Anderson’s involvement.

In fact, the Oscar-winning actress tailored her shooting schedule for The Last Showgirl to accommodate her collaboration with Anderson.

Curtis expressed admiration for Anderson’s approach to the entertainment industry, stating, “I admire the way she navigates the nonsense of show business, asserting, ‘I don’t need to conform to your expectations.’ I have great respect for her stance.”

Anderson rose to fame through modeling, particularly with Playboy. Her tumultuous marriage to Tommy Lee and the controversy surrounding a stolen sex tape are topics she has openly addressed in her 2023 memoir, *Love, Pamela” and in her Netflix documentary, Pamela, a Love Story.

On the red carpet in Toronto, Curtis revealed that she had watched the documentary, produced by Anderson’s son Brandon Lee. “She has been candid about her experiences with societal treatment… I hope this film brings her talents the recognition they deserve.”

The Last Showgirl, directed by Gia Coppola and written by Kate Gersten, also stars Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Billie Lourd. This film is Anderson’s first leading role in years, following her appearance in the 2022 horror film *Alone at Night.*

The Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 5 to 15. After its debut, The Last Showgirl will be featured in the main competition at the San Sebastián International Film Festival from September 20 to 28. A distributor and release date have yet to be announced.
