The National Weather Service has issued a warning for potential minor coastal flooding across the Hawaiian islands this weekend. This is attributed to the upcoming full moon and water levels rising approximately 0.5 feet (6 inches) above forecasts.

Forecasters indicate that flooding could begin as early as this afternoon, with heightened risks continuing from Saturday through Monday. Low-lying coastal areas and shorelines across all islands are likely to be affected.

Expected impacts include flooding in areas typically dry, minor coastal erosion, and the inundation of saltwater. Residents are advised to avoid driving through flooded streets and to relocate vehicles, electronics, and other valuables to higher ground. Additionally, securing canoes and other watercraft on the beach is recommended.

The University of Hawaii Sea Grant College Program encourages the public to share photos of coastal flooding at PacificIslandsKingTides.org to enhance understanding of sea level rise. The website also provides a schedule of peak high tide times for various locations throughout Hawaii.
