Kevin Sullivan, an iconic figure in the world of professional wrestling, has reportedly passed away at the age of 74. The news was broken on Friday by Pro Wrestling Insider, and it comes after Sullivan had been dealing with health issues following complications from an emergency surgery.
Sullivan was best known to a generation of wrestling fans for his villainous persona and his role as the lead booker for World Championship Wrestling (WCW). He was the leader of the notorious stables, the Three Faces of Fear and the Dungeon of Doom, which menaced the legendary Hulk Hogan in the 1990s, prior to Hogan’s infamous heel turn and the rise of the New World Order.
Sullivan’s legacy also includes his involvement in the intricate backstage politics of WCW, including his personal and professional rivalry with the late Chris Benoit, as well as the infamous “I respect you, bookerman” incident involving Brian Pillman. Fittingly, Sullivan’s final match as a wrestler was against Pillman’s son, Lexis King, who is currently a rising star in “WWE NXT.”
Wrestling Inc. extends its deepest condolences to Kevin Sullivan’s friends and family during this difficult time.
