KYIV, Sept 3 – President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that a Russian missile strike on a military institute in the central city of Poltava resulted in at least 41 fatalities and over 180 injuries on Tuesday, marking one of the most lethal attacks of the conflict.
In a video statement, Zelenskiy reported that Russian forces launched two ballistic missiles, targeting a building at the Military Institute of Communications. He emphasized that a thorough and swift investigation into the attack’s circumstances has been initiated.
“The perpetrators of this heinous act will face justice,” Zelenskiy stated via the Telegram messaging platform. He reiterated his appeal for enhanced Western air defense systems and urged allies to permit the use of long-range weaponry for strikes further into Russian territory to bolster Ukraine’s defense.
“We continue to urge the global community to provide the necessary air defense systems and missiles to Ukraine rather than letting them sit in storage,” he asserted. “Immediate long-range capabilities are essential to shield us from Russian aggression; any delay results in more lives lost.”
