PlayStation has announced it will be shutting down its recently released live service game, “Concord,” developed by Firewalk, this Friday—only two weeks after its launch on August 23.

The team-based first-person shooter has reportedly attracted an unusually low number of players since its debut on PlayStation 5 and PC. Data from the third-party gaming site SteamDB indicated just 30 active players at the time of this report, with a peak of only 697 concurrent players, a notably low figure for a new PlayStation title, placing it near the bottom of the sales charts.

In “Concord,” often likened to the popular multiplayer shooter “Overwatch,” players form teams of Freegunner space outlaws aboard the Northstar spacecraft for online matches featuring two teams of five. The limited player base has made it challenging to find matches.

In a blog post released by PlayStation, Firewalk Studios’ game director Ryan Ellis expressed gratitude to the community, acknowledging the feedback received since the game’s launch. He stated, “While many aspects of the experience resonated with players, we recognize that other parts did not meet our expectations. As a result, we have decided to take the game offline starting September 6, 2024, and will explore new options to better engage our players. Effective immediately, sales of ‘Concord’ will cease, and we will issue full refunds to everyone who purchased the game for PS5 or PC.”

According to PlayStation, customers who bought “Concord” from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct will receive refunds through their original payment method, while those who purchased it via Steam, Epic Games Store, or physical copies will be refunded through those platforms and retailers. Following the refund process, players will lose access to the game.
