Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, recently made headlines by officially changing her name to Shiloh Jolie after turning 18.
In May, she filed paperwork to legally drop “Pitt” from her last name, as reported by TMZ and People. A few months later, a notice regarding her name change appeared in the Los Angeles Times, which led to tabloid speculation about an advertisement. However, Shiloh’s attorney, Peter Levine, clarified to *Page Six* that this was merely a legal requirement under California law, stating, “Shiloh Jolie did not take out an ‘ad’ announcing any name change.” He emphasized that her decision was independent and came after challenging circumstances.
The name change process coincides with Jolie and Pitt’s ongoing and tumultuous divorce, which has involved allegations from Jolie of physical abuse against her and one of their children—claims that Pitt has denied. Over recent years, some of their children have distanced themselves from Pitt. For instance, their eldest son, Maddox, reportedly did not use “Pitt” in non-legal documents after testifying during custody hearings.
Furthermore, last year, their daughter Zahara announced herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie” during her initiation into the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College. Additionally, their 15-year-old daughter, Vivienne, is listed as “Vivienne Jolie” in the playbill for the Broadway adaptation of *The Outsiders*, where she and Angelina have production credits. It remains unclear if any of the other children besides Shiloh have initiated formal name changes.
