K-pop artist Taeil has departed from the boy band NCT following allegations of an unspecified sexual offense, according to his label
On Wednesday, SM Entertainment announced on X that Taeil would be leaving the group after being “accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offense.” The label did not disclose further details about the accusations.
“We acknowledge the gravity of the situation and have concluded that Taeil cannot continue with group activities,” the statement read. “After discussions with Taeil, it was decided that he will exit the group.” The agency also noted that he is fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
Taeil was a member of NCT, or Neo Culture Technology, a highly popular South Korean boy band that made its debut in 2016. The ensemble features over two dozen members across multiple subunits, including NCT 127, NCT Dream, and NCT Wish, with Taeil being particularly active in NCT 127. Known for their innovative music that spans various genres, the group has achieved international recognition, with some of their releases appearing on Billboard charts.
SM Entertainment’s announcement received more than 45.7 million views within just three hours.
The details surrounding the criminal allegations have not been independently verified, and law enforcement has refrained from commenting.
