Obi Ndefo’s sister, Nkem, announced his passing on Facebook Saturday; he was 51.
Katie Holmes is honoring her late co-star from *Dawson’s Creek*, Obi Ndefo, following the news of his death shared by his sister, Nkem.
Holmes expressed her condolences over the weekend in an Instagram Story, which has since disappeared. “He was a joy to work with and such a kind man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace,” she wrote, accompanying a screenshot of a tribute video posted by fellow *Dawson’s* star Mary-Margaret Humes.
Humes, who portrayed Dawson’s mother, Gale Leery, shared her heartfelt sentiments in the tribute, stating, “These words are difficult to express. It’s hard to accept that you are no longer with us, my dear friend. You were and will always be a shining light. Your example of unwavering love and resilience in the face of life’s recent challenges was inspiring.” The tribute included a collection of photos and videos of Obi on set.
Nkem did not share specific details about her brother’s death but included a nostalgic photo of them together. “Heartbroken over the loss of my younger brother, knowing he is finally at peace,” she wrote.
According to the *Los Angeles Times*, Obi became a double amputee in 2019 after a tragic hit-and-run incident. He was struck by a drunk driver while putting groceries in his car, resulting in injuries that led to the amputation of both legs.
Obi played Bodie in *Dawson’s Creek*, where he teamed up with Humes’ character to manage the Capeside bistro, Leery’s Fresh Fish. He was also the boyfriend of Bessie Potter (Nina Repeta), who is the older sister of Holmes’ character, Joey. Obi was recognized for his appearances on shows like *The Jamie Foxx Show*, *3rd Rock From the Sun*, *Angel*, *Star Trek: Voyager*, *NYPD Blue*, *The West Wing*, and *Stargate SG-1*.
